I recently bought a Mini, a 1980 998cc two-owner Mini, which has had a light restoration to the body. The engine is the original with 103,000 miles on it. I have noticed that at idle the oil pressure is just under 5psi. My friend's Mini, which is of similar vintage but with a significantly lower mileage, is around 18psi at idle which, according to the owners' manual, is about right. What do you think could be the cause of this, and do you think it is anything to worry about? It has been suggested that I might need to fit a new oil pump. Is this a DIY job?
