Minis could be seen both on and off the track at the annual Silverstone Classic at the famous Northamptonshire circuit over the weekend of 29-31 July. The action-packed weekend of the Silverstone Classic features spectacular classic motor racing, impressive parades and infield displays from over 100 car clubs featuring more than 10,000 classic cars. The Royal Air Force Mini Club had a stand and one of its members won the Judges' Choice award in the concours competition. Will Runciman from the club explained: "With Silverstone circuit being an old World War II airfield, this classic event is the perfect location for the RAFMC to have its annual meet and feel right at home!" In the past the club has won the 'Scarf and Goggles' award for the best infield display. This year saw the inaugural concours competition to be held at the event and each displaying club was allowed to submit one entry. We entered James Goodright's 1995 Rover John Cooper Si Mini which has recently been rebuilt." James is an engineer based at DSAE Cosford and is the owner of a 1995 Cooper Si which was originally owned by John Cooper and was used as a press vehicle. The Mini was awarded the accolade by expert judges including Wheeler Dealers presenter Mike Brewer who recalled driving the Mini for TV show Pulling Power when it was launched.
