Fit a Cooper Car Co twin carburettor conversion

John Cooper's performance upgrade Cooper conversion kits for the Mini have been popular since the 1980s. John Cooper Garages introduced a Cooper upgrade for the 998cc Mini engine in 1987 and a 1275 Cooper 'S' conversion in 1990. The kit included a pair of SU HS2 carburettors, a modified cylinder head and performance exhaust system plus a conversion plaque and certificate. At present, Cooper Car Co John Cooper conversion kits can be fitted to the 998cc and 1275cc A-series and A+ carburettor engines, and the 1275c single- and multi-point injection engines. The kit shown in our photographs is for a 998cc carburettor A+ engine that has been fitted to a Mini 35 LE. The 998cc 64bhp kit costs £2,650.44 and can either be fitted at home or by a specialist such as Mini Sport for around £600. The engine should then be fine-tuned on a rolling road after fitting the kit.
