When I was 17 years old my first car had to be a Mini, of course. It was a Mk1 850, with magic wand, that got from zero to 60 eventually. I knew I had something special but didn't know I'd come back into Minis at a later date in my life. It all happened one day when I wanted to go rallying, like you do. My sidekick, Andy Whitehead, agreed with me and we decided to go buy a Mini. We did so and entered the Tour of Anglesey in 2003. It was the hardest two-day, one-night event we ever did, which incorporated everything a rally could throw at us including a night event on the best back roads we have here in Snowdonia and a series of tests at Anglesey Racetrack that we struggled through with a slipping clutch and smoking engine. But, through determination, we finished second in class and got a trophy too.
