1982 MODIFIED MINI VAN

Young Mini fan, Alex Elliott, bought his 1982 Mini Van from a friend. It had previously belonged to a window cleaner so was full of rust caused by buckets of water. Alex repaired the shell but there was a problem with the fresh Island Blue paint reacting and causing a marbled effect. It was painted again and the same thing happened! Annoyingly, it turned out to be a problem with the paint he had been supplied, rather than the application. It was sorted out eventually and topped off with an Old English White roof. The paint tones may have been traditional but the Van was fitted with Sports Pack arches and wheels. The pressed-steel grille was cut out and a Mk1 slatted one was fitted instead. It received a 1380cc engine from MED after the 1275 he initially fitted gave up with a damaged piston ring. Twin SU HIF38 carbs were fitted plus a Maniflow stainless steel LCB exhaust manifold. MED also rebuilt the gearbox. Sensibly, Alex replaced the drum brakes with an 8.4" disc set-up at the front and Superfins at the rear. He fitted a coil-spring conversion kit and was really impressed with the ride.
