In years gone by Minis had a bad reputation with rear subframes because they did have a tendency to rot out in a relatively short time and renewal at a garage was expensive. Many a Mini was scrapped simply because of an MOT failure on the rear subframe. Front subframes did not rust as much, partly due to design and partly due to leaking engine oil. Today, rusty subframes are less common due to owners taking more care over rust-proofing and because most Minis are no longer in daily use.
