Scott Turner is highly regarded as the go-to person if you want a Mini Cooper S restored or advice on finding the correct parts for a particular S model. He knows them inside out. His 5s often win awards but he remains modest about his work. I was therefore rather surprised to see him so animated and excited about an unrestored non-Cooper Mk1... Scott bought this Mk1 Mini-Minor De Luxe from a friend of his who had bought it at auction. "A lady owned it and bought it to learn to drive in it. When she died it went to probate and they had to cut a tree down to get it out of the garage." Because this Mini was registered in February 1968 (UK Mk1 saloon production ceased around September 1967 and Mk2 was launched the following month) Scott thinks that people had assumed it was a Mk2 which, although more rare, are not as popular as a Mk1 to collectors. "So there wasn't much of a buzz about it. I've been trying to buy it off him for about eight years," he explains.
