Initial results showed coal extending in a basin 20-km- (12-mile-) long and 5-km- (3.1-km-) wide.n This plan was started from scratch, basically rebuilding every mine area, strip and block into a logical pit sequence that maximized pit lengths and optimized the coal seams recovered. Thiess provided the results to TEC for incorporation into its economic model to obtain a final NPV cost of energy to the power plant.
