An Interpretation of Weber's Methodological Writings

FRITZ RINGER is a historian of German academic life whose reputation is based largely on The Decline of the German Mandarins: The German Academic Community 1890- 1933, a book that is full if interesting historical nuggets about the rise and eventual dissolution of the German academic elite. Max Weber was briefly discussed in that book, but in a way which most Weber specialists did not find to be persuasive. In this new book, Ringer leaps disciplinary boundaries and attempts a survey of Weber's methodological writings.
