There are three things that some publishers seem to loathe. These are foot/end notes, bibliographies and indices. Such publishers seem reluctant to add to the length of the book and to protect their authors from charges of plagiarism by adding the necessary notes and bibliography. If they only realised that the bibliography also serves as a guide to further reading and may contribute to the sale of more books, their own titles included. Non-fiction books are meant to be reread. The index is a tool and a guide to the contents of a book. A reference book such as a guide should have an index to facilitate its use.
