Henry Petroski

Henry Petroski, Aleksandar S. Vesic Professor of Civil Engineering and Professor of History at Duke University, received the 2006 Washington Award during Engineers Week 2006 in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Petroski's acceptance speech was a celebration of the profession of engineering and the accomplishments of engineers. He recalled the words of the first recipient of the Washington Award, Herbert Hoover, and discussed some of the world s greatest engineering projects and structures that serve as examples of how engineering achievements can raise the spirit of all humankind.
