This Chart Watch lists six high-performance embedded-processor cores available as licensable intellectual property (IP) for integration in ASICs and SoCs. All are fully synthesizable, and IBM additionally offers the Power 460S processor as a prehardened core. ARM offers the Cortex-A8 in both fully synthesizable and partially hardened versions. These general-purpose processors are tor embedded systems needing high throughput. Although they consume relatively little power relative to their performance, they aren't the first choice if power consumption is paramount. Most of these vendors offer much lower-power 32-bit cores, albeit with less performance.
