Octasic Stops the Clock

A company claiming to have adapted a media processor to be a cellular-baseband processor would invite skepticism; a company claiming to have created a multicore DSP using asynchronous logic would be greeted with worse. But a small Montreal-based company accomplished both. Octasic has introduced new signal processors that perform voice coding, video transcoding, and cellular-baseband processing. The new OCT2224 is based on the company's Opus2 DSP, a clockless design that saves power and die area compared with traditional synchronous-logic DSPs.
