Ceva Extends XC DSPs

The battle for the cellular baseband heated up again as Ceva announced new features for its flagship XC family of licensable DSPs. Designed for baseband processing in applications ranging from mobile handsets to wireless infrastructure, the current Ceva-XC4000 family spans this broad performance range with a single line of scalable DSP cores (see MPR 3/5/12, "Ceva Exposes DSP Six Pack"). The new XC features improve system-level performance and enable SoC designers to more easily implement multicore DSP designs. The company has yet to announce specific XC cores based on these enhancements, but it said customers are already designing SoCs that implement the new features. It has previously licensed its XC family to Broadcom, Intel, and Mindspeed.
