MediaTek is the dominant supplier of processors for low-cost cell phones. Qualcomm is the dominant supplier of processors for smartphones worldwide. Now that a market for low-cost smartphones is emerging, these two titans are battling head to head for the first time. Qualcomm won round one against MediaTek's underpowered MT6573, but the Taiwanese vendor landed powerful blows with its MT6575 and MT6577, which are enormously popular in Chinese smartphones.
