Intel Customizes Server Processors

Intel prides itself on serving its customers well, but it does so mainly by supplying the same set of processors to all and following a preordained roadmap for delivering new features. This approach has served it well during the PC and client-server eras. Because the company holds more than a 95% share in server processors, customers have had little choice but to ride the Intel train. In an era when competitors shot themselves in the foot, all the company had to do was continue executing on a linear trajectory; its market power has even allowed it to increase server-processor prices.
