Ceva's New Gen-X DSPs Target 5G

Ceva's new X4 DSP core for baseband processors includes features that support the forthcoming 3GPP LTE-Advanced Release 13 (LTE-Advanced Pro), as well as future 5G modems. The 3GPP plans to complete the Release 13 specification by the end of this month. The X4 is just the first core that Ceva plans to develop from its X design platform. This latest-generation platform addresses the requirements of a wide range of wireless standards, from legacy 2G and 3G to emerging LTE machine-type communications (MTC), Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN), Wi-Fi, and 802.15.4-based IoT protocols. The company is currently providing the X4 to its lead customers, and it plans to release production RTL in 2Q16. We expect the first X4-equipped modems to enter production in 2H17.
