Ryzen Marches Into Laptops

AMD's initial Zen-based processors match up well against Intel's offerings in performance but lag a bit in power. The company's first mobile Zen processors, however, show that the new CPU fits into the power budget not only of a standard laptop but of ultrathin models as well. Code-named Raven Ridge, the new Ryzen Mobile products offer a 15W TDP, taking on Intel's Kaby Lake R products (e.g., Core i7-8550U). They also include an AMD Vega GPU, marking the first time the company has combined its leading-edge CPU and GPU architectures in a mobile processor. Ryzen Mobile is scheduled to appear in notebooks by the end of this year.
