In her essay included with Perdita Manuscripts, Jill Seal Mill-man notes that the impetus behind the original Perdita Project was to develop "a better understanding of the nature and value of manuscripts" and to promote "understanding and respect for women's writing in the [Early Modern] period." Adam Matthew Digital's Perdita Manuscripts realizes this vision admirably, offering academic institutions with programs or courses in Early Modern studies, women's studies, manuscript studies, or cultural studies a path-breaking resource for scholarship and teaching. The collection and its accompanying material would be especially useful for teachers or librarians interested in having students examine primary source documents in their original form. Ultimately, Perdita Manuscripts is an outstanding resource, challenging traditional conceptions of the literary canon and facilitating research into the lives and experiences of women who shaped history but were "lost" to time for far too long.
