Architectural Designs at the Victoria and Albert Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum's Word and Image Department holds an estimated 750,000 prints, drawings, paintings and photographs. Among these is an outstanding collection of over 15,000 architectural designs, as well as archival sources in the Archive of Art and Design, and numerous printedrnvolumes in the National Art Library all relating to the topic of architecture. Spanning countries and centuries and embracing diverse media, this material was created by, and associated with some of the most celebrated architects of their age, and includes works by John Talman, William Kent or, closer to us inrntime, Archigram and Norman Foster. The collection provides a vivid and accurate visual conspectus of architectural styles from the seventeenth century to the present day, and the thousands of designs at the V&A participate in an evocative visual narrative of architecture from Early Modern to Contemporary times.
