The Digital Library of Lao Manuscripts: Making the Literary Heritage of Laos Available via the Internet

The Digital Library of Lao Manuscripts (DLLM) makes images of almost 12,000 manuscripts from throughout Laos easily accessible for study via the Internet.1 The three-year DLLM project, which officially started in October 2007, was jointly implemented by the National Library of Laos together with the University of Passau and the State Library of Berlin, in Germany.2 The project was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), under the programme Research Cooperation with Developing Countries. The project was the direct result of the Lao-German Cooperation Preservation of Lao Manuscripts Programme.
