The Iron Hill Museum Oral History Collection

The University of Delaware Library's newly created Center for Digital Collections was formed in July of 2010 (though digitization previously existed as a small one person unit within the Preservation Department). With the creation of the department and the increase in personnel, the staff have begun to expand to larger collection digitization and experimenting with formats other than text and images. The Iron Hill Museum Oral History Collection was chosen as the first audio streaming collection to be put up for public access due to many factors, including the fact that an EAD XML finding aid developed by the Library's Special Collections department already existed. The collection is of good size, nature and material, making it an excellent candidate based on technical aspects of previously created metadata and being of a finite size. The UD Library has a special interest and concentration on local Delaware history, making this collection a good candidate in an historical aspect as well.
