USDC to explore new display markets; study commissioned

Conceding the bulk of the AMLCD market to Japan, USDC announced it is taking steps to help its member companies exploit a variety of emerging display technologies. The consortium has commissioned a study and is funding several developmental projects, said Michael Ciesinski, USDC's president and CEO, at a news conference here during SID '98. Sponsored by the Society for Information Display, the annual technical conference and trade show was held May 17-19. Technologies under development by several of the consortium's members are field emission displays, projection displays, and organic light-emitting diodes as well as liquid crystal and electroluminescent displays. Two of the consortium's 14 member firms manufacture AMLCDs.
