Alcoa expects aluminum supply surplus of 300,000 mt in 2007

US industry major Alcoa has revised its aluminum supply/demand picture and now expects a global aluminum supply surplus of 300,000 mt in 2007 versus a previously expected balanced market. The previous forecast was made three months ago. The aluminum market saw a deficit of 200,000 mt in 2006. Alcoa's 2007 forecast is in line with investment bank Merrill Lynch's estimate.
