Washington—Prices of silicomanganese have soared in the US market on the back of fresh consumer business in the wake of the force majeure at Eramet's Marietta, Ohio, plant, declared on March 12. Consumer purchases for second-quarter delivery were reported within a range of 60-65￠/lb FOB warehouse, on March 14, representing an approximate 40% increase over the Platts assessment for 2% carbon, free-market silicomanganese a week earlier. As a result of the business, spot prices rose considerably and the Platts assessment rose sharply to 60-65￠/lb FOB on March 14 from 45-49￠/lb a week earlier.
