China’s Henan Sanmenxia Tianyuan Aluminium has delayed nthe restart of idled capacity at its smelter in Mianchi city ndue to unfavorable market conditions, a company source nsaid last week. The plant was originally scheduled to nresume full capacity in June but now expected to restart nnext year. “There are many issues affecting the plans to nrestart — funding due to tighter monetary policies, higher npower costs and expected power cuts in the near term,” the ncompany source said. “We are now doubtful that we can nrestart anytime this year,” he added. The 120,000 mt/year nsmelter had curtailed output by 70,000 mt/year in October n2010 on the back of the government’s power rationing nmeasures at the time. It has been producing at 50,000 mtyear since the cutback. “In 2011, we expect to maintain nactual production at about 50,000 mt. We also expect npower cuts, but we doubt it will impact our production as nwe are a small producer,” the source said.
