Forging Simulation: Finite Element Packages

In the last few years, the cost of computing power has decreased significantly. This has placed even the smallest of forging companies in a position where they could consider using a range of simulation packages. Typically, the term simulation package conjures up the term finite element. There are however several types of simulation packages based on numerical methods other than finite element. This article, which is one of three, provides a brief insight into the operation of forging specific finite element packages. The other two articles examine the ForgeRond~(1) and TEUBA~(2) packages respectively. The philosphy behind ForegReond is markedly different to that adopted for finite element packages and different again to that adopted for TEUBA.
