The end of the Cold War did not spell an end to worldwide hostilities, as has been demonstrated by the invasion of Kuwait and the war in Bosnia. Like it or not, the credibility of American foreign policy is directly linked to its ability to project military power anywhere in the world. While there is still some debate over the size of the U.S. military, policy makers agree that the quality of its personnel, armament, and equipment must be second to none in a troubled world.
