Technological developments keep skaters in-line

Go to any park on a warm sunny day, and you'll see them in droves— from the warriors who whiz by in a blur to the struggling beginners, their joints padded for protection, tentatively taking their first steps. As in-line skaters take to the streets in record numbers, making the sport one of the fastest growing forms of recreation and exercise, engineers have been working on the skate itself. Some of the key developments include new wheel designs to increase speed and stability; lightweight, high-strength materials in the wheel; and innovative braking technologies.
