Engineering across the seas

After years of touting the idea of free trade to promote economic prosperity, countries throughout the world are tearing down trade barriers through regional trade pacts, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement and the European Union, and through global agreements, such as the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. The result is widespread movement of goods, technologies, and services across borders. For U.S. mechanical engineers, this global development opens up a variety of new opportunities.
