Kinematic analysis programs reduce overdesign

After acquiring years of experience designing a family of products or several generations of the same product, mechanical engineers often come to trust intuitive judgments when they need to predict the effects of design changes. Such experience remains one of many mechanical engineers' most valuable assets. After all, despite the great advances made in engineering hardware and software over the past 15 years, it still can be difficult to set up a computer system so that insights gained during the design of the latest product generation can be used as input for the next design cycle.
