When soft-ware developers create applications using an entirely new approach, engineering departments often can't get on the bandwagon because they can't afford to abandon existing software written in Fortran or C. Recent developments in the engineering software industry, however, may eventually make it easier for engineers to adopt the latest software technology. Perhaps the most significant development is the increasing use of object-oriented programming (OOP) techniques by software vendors.
