A new spin on the rotary engine

Despite the market supremacy of the piston engine, inven-tors keep trying to build a better internal combustion (IC) engine. The piston-based IC engine is, of course, not perfect by any means: It suffers from systematic losses caused by rapidly reciprocating piston masses and by a costly valve train mechanically more complex than the rest of the motor.
