Bio Jet Fuel Passes New Test

The USAF has come closer to its goal of diversifying its supply of aviation fuels. In late March, an Air Force jet made a demonstration flight burning a 50-50 blend of a plant-based biofuel and conventional JP-8 in both its engines. There have been previous flights resting blends of bio- and conventional fuels in jet aircraft, including commercial airliners, but in those demonstrations, the experimental fuel blend was used in only one engine. The process that produced the biofuel used at Eglin was developed by Honeywell UOP LLC.
