Maxon, NI Team on Robots

Maxon Precision Motors of Fall River, MA, and National Instruments (NI) of Austin have announced a formal collaboration in robotics. NI is known for its LabView software. Originally developed for virtual instrumentation LabView has morphed to include motion control and communications. Maxon has an established niche in high-end miniature motors, sensors, and controllers. Its motors are often used in medical, semiconductor, and other precision applications, including Intuitive Surgical's Da Vinci surgical robot and NASA's Mars rover. The collaboration will integrate Maxon products, including native interfaces, into LabView, said NI senior group manager Shelley Gretlein, so roboticists don't have to assume the integration workload.
