Chris Manning wants your computer to know what you're talking about. Working with Stanford linguistics associate professor Dan Jurafsky, Manning, associate professor of computer science and linguistics at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, has been developing a set of tools to help computers do what a pupil learns in grammar school: Parse sentences. As with humans, computers begin to understand sentences by recognizing parts of speech and how the sentence is structured, Manning said.
