On the event of this, our first "reflections" issue of the journal Measurement: Interdisciplinary Research and Practice, it seems fitting to reflect upon our progress over the first six years of publication. Looking back at the prospectus that was originally written for this journal, some of the major reasons for its founding, can be discerned:rnIts distinctive purpose is to devote itself to the study of measurement, its theory, and its major fields of application. The reason why such a focus is needed now is that, in my view, the field of measurement is relatively overdeveloped technically and underdeveloped conceptually. The quality of articles in the new journal should be forceful and rigorous, and their breadth should be very wide, both in the sense of the disciplinary focus, and in the fields of application.
