Back to the Linking Construct: A Commentary on 'Thinking About Linking' by Paul E. Newton

Paul Newton's article (2010) is an original, thought-provoking, and carefully argued contribution to our ideas about what linking is and when we can do it. He presents a defense of linking as different from equating, not just an incomplete or inadequate form of it. He also argues that the issue of establishing the comparability of different examinations in the United Kingdom, for example, can be seen as a form of linking that is somewhat different from the ways linking has been used in the United States and elsewhere. These are important and helpful insights.
