As a child, I grooved on teeter-totters. Every public park boasted a hoard of those devices, and I usually had little trouble persuading a friend to join me for a ride. Because far fewer parks possess teeter-totters these days, you may be unfamiliar with this low-cost apparatus. Also known as a seesaw, a teeter-totter is a long, narrow board that's elevated with a pivot point in the middle so that as one end goes down the other end goes up. When going up or going down, sometimes quite rapidly, teeter-totters can provide their two riders with some serious thrills.
