We demonstrate the importance of creating a bank of reference standards for analytical chemical safety monitoring in the field of chemical disarmament. We consider the major approaches to using state composition standard reference materials (SRMs) for toxic chemicals and their degradation products in monitoring the safety of chemical weapons destruction, ensuring protection of the environment and the health of the general public.
