Nonstandard applications of computer algebra

Welcome to a new special issue of Mathematics and Computers in Simulation containing extended versions of the talks from the Applications of Computer Algebra (ACA) 2008 and 2009 special sessions on Nonstandard Applications of Computer Algebra. ACA conferences are IMACS sponsored events that have taken place every year since 1995 in North America, Europe and Asia (see http://math.unm.edu/_aca/ for details), and we have organized a Nonstandard Applications of Computer Algebra session in many of them.
