In the spring of 2004, NACE International and SSPC-The Society for Protective Coatings signed agreements to develop a program for qualifying industrial coating and lining applicators. The organizations formed three joint task groups (TGs) to 1) draft standard(s) for qualifying applicators (surface preparation and coating application), 2) develop a training program to accompany the qualification standard, and 3) develop appropriate certification program(s) to implement the qualification standard (s). The standards and training TGs have made significant progress. The standards TG has developed a draft standard that also has been reviewed by the training and certification TGs, which are involved in developing the overall strategy.
