1. CW pipelines are being damaged from corrosion caused microbiological species and the corrosiveness of the water. 2. Cooling tower fill fouling occurs mainly from suspended matter in the air, which sticks to the lower portion of the fills; micro-organisms then create a biofilm that enhances the clogging of the fills. 3. Corrosion products from the CW system are deposited along with dirt/bacteria in the cooling tower fills. 4. With the increase in fouling of cooling tower fills, the increase in local temperatures leads to precipitation of CaCO_3 on top of the foulants.
