DoD Plans Sustainment Research for Equipment and Infrastructure

The U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division (Washington, DC), awarded a $41 million task order to Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) to provide the Department of Defense (DoD) with a scientific research program on equipment and infrastructure lifecycle and sustainment. The DoD 2009 Cost of Corrosion study estimates that the U.S. Navy spends more than $6 billion annually to address corrosion and other forms of materials degradation. SAIC will help address this challenge by providing the DoD with effective scientific research that concentrates on materials degradation exploration and advanced materials development.
