A criterion for assessing the corrosion risk for the Zn/CS couples using the OCP values is not clear. The OCP potentials obtained for Zn/CS couples in the chloride contaminated solution presented oscillations (from -1,019 to -233 mV vs. SC3), which were attributed to the dissolution/ formation of the passive layer. This condition avoids the corrosion of CS. However, when noncoupled CS was tested, it corroded at potential values within the range of potentials obtained for Zn/CS couples (-355 mV vs. SC3). Thus, the CS corrosion in Zn/CS couples cannot be predicted using a criterion similar to ASTM C876.
