Lorenzo Martinez Gomez died peacefully, surrounded by his family, in May 2020. He was 69. Lorenzo was born in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, in 1951. He completed his undergraduate, masters, and doctorate studies in physics at the Mexico National University UNAM Faculty of Sciences, presenting his doctoral dissertation in 1980. He did his doctoral thesis and his post-doctorate in materials science and engineering at Stanford University in California, USA, supervised by William D. Nix. Since 1981 he directed 23 doctoral theses, and more than 40 bachelor and master theses. He is the author of more than 200 specialized publications in magazines such as World Pipelines, CORROSION, Acta Materialia, Materials Performance, British Corrosion Journal, Materials Engineering and Performance, and Materials Science and Engineering. His work has been cited nearly 2,000 times by third parties in specialized literature.
