摘要

Alumina-tungsten carbide composite was prepared by a hot-pressing process. It is shown that the mechanical properties of alumina matrix materials could be greatly improved after introducing a dispersion of tungsten carbide particles. Flexural strength and fracture toughness of the Al_2O_3--WC composite added with 6 vol./100 WC particles and sintered at 1450"C reached 581 MPa and 5.13 Mpam~1/2. respectively. The microstructure of Al_2O_3--WC composite was investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis.
