The poly(p-phenylenevinylene-styrene) block copolymers (PPV-co-PS) have good solubility and fabrication. The photoluminescence (PL) properties of the PPV-co-PS block copolymers in chloroform solution and in solid film were studied. The PL spectra of the PPV-co-PS copolymers in chloroform were gradually blue-shifted from 501 to 431 nm with increasing of the PS content in the PPV-co-PS copolymers, which contributed to the shortening of the PPV conjugation length in the copolymers. The single-layer electroluminescence (EL) device fabricated from the copolymer showed the emission blue light and the low turn-on voltage at 8.0 V. Also, the emission peaks were blue-shifted with increasing of the applied voltage, which might be contributed by different conjugation lengths in the copolymers.
