A Ti-Ni-Cu-Zr bulk metallic glass-forming alloy was modified by adding various percents of Ta for improving plasticity. The modified Ti-base alloys are investigated in terms of microstructure, mechanical properties and fracture behavior. (Ti_(26)Zr_(12)Cu_(53)Ni_9)_(0.7)(Ti_(80)Ta_(20))_(0.3) contains Ti_2Ni particles and alpha' + gamma-TiCu matrix, and exhibits high yield strength and very high Young's modulus, but zero plasticity. _(26)Zr_(12)Cu_(53)Ni_9)_(0.5) (Ti_(80)Ta_(20))_(0.5) contains dendritic beta-Ti(Ta) solid solution and alpha' + gamma-TiCu matrix, and exhibits high yield strength, high Young's modulus and distinct plasticity, showing significant plasticity-improvement after adding 10 at. percent Ta into the alloy.
