Structural, Dielectric and Magnetic Characterization of Gd Doped BiFeO_3 Nanopowders

Pure and Gd-doped BiFeO_3 polycrystalline nanopowders were synthesized by solution combustion method and their structural, dielectric and magnetic properties were investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies revealed the rhombohedral structure (R3c space group) with some impurities for pure nanopowder and the orthorhombic structure (Pnma space group) for 8% Gd doped BiFeO_3 nanopowder. Dielectric constant and dielectric loss have been investigated with frequency variation. Doped BiFeO_3 nanopowder showed enhanced ferromagnetic character at room temperature. Doping of Gd caused structural distortion as well as suppressed the spiral spin structure in BiFeO_3; as a result ferromagnetic character got enhanced.
